DOMESTIC ROBOTS · 2026

Helpful at home.
Honest about limits.

Home robots are leaving the floor and reaching for everyday chores. Homekin tracks what is real, what is demonstrated and what must still earn a place in your private space.

WHY NOW

Robots are reaching beyond the floor.

Manufacturers are showing mobile assistants that can interact with appliances and household objects—but availability remains uneven.

LG · 6 Jan 2026

CLOiD demonstrates general household chores.

LG presented an AI-powered home robot with articulated arms as part of its “Zero Labor Home” vision. This was a CES demonstration; the announcement does not establish a UK retail date.

SwitchBot · CES 2026

Embodied AI becomes a whole-home pitch.

SwitchBot’s CES page described a general-purpose humanoid robot working with an AI hub and household devices. Treat demonstrations and feature claims as manufacturer material.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Five checks before a robot joins the household.

Capabilities matter. Boundaries, updates and predictable behaviour matter longer.

01

Separate demo from delivery

A stage demonstration, prototype or concept is not a shipping product. Look for a confirmed market, date, warranty and returns policy.

02

Map the private zones

Check where cameras and microphones work, whether processing can stay local, how recording is signalled and which rooms should remain off-limits.

03

Test the household fit

Stairs, thresholds, pets, children, fragile objects, narrow routes and shared homes can turn a polished demo into a difficult daily routine.

04

Check support life

Find the promised security-update period, replacement parts, remote-disable behaviour and what remains useful if a cloud service ends.

05

Keep humans responsible

A home robot may assist with routine tasks. It should not replace qualified childcare, elder care, medical support or emergency judgement.
